Recently, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released their comprehensive data sheet on the stats and figures for plastic surgery procedures in 2017. On a whole, the entire plastic surgery industry saw an increase in 2017 with nearly every surgical and minimally-invasive procedure seeing increases as well. Liposuction, which is a body contouring procedure that eliminates small pockets of stubborn fat around the body, saw an increase too.

The report shows that liposuction was a top-five procedure in 2017, marking its third year as a top-five plastic surgery procedure performed in the U.S. The report also broke down how many liposuction procedures were performed and the demographics of who had the treatment. These stats include:

• 246,354 total procedures
• 5% increase from 2016
• 89% were performed on women
• 39% performed on those between the ages of 40-54
• 31% of all procedures performed in the Pacific and Mountain West regions of U.S.
