What is ThermaLipo?
ThermaLipo is the combination of Thermage® skin tightening, tumescent liposuction, and power-assisted liposuction in order to deliver safe and effective results that are customized to suit you and your cosmetic goals. The first step of the ThermaLipo process is tumescent liposuction, which involves injecting a solution of saline, epinephrine, and local anesthetic into the subcutaneous fat of the treated area. This solution helps the fat removal process by making the fat calls in the area swell and firm up, which is the definition of the term “tumescent.”
Our San Diego laser lipo reduces the risk of surgical bleeding and decreases post-operative swelling and bruising by effectively numbing the area with the anesthetic in the solution and constricting the blood vessels in the area. One of the best benefits of the tumescent technique is there’s no need for general anesthesia or IV sedation. The fat removal technique of the ThermaLipo process is done with power-assisted technology, which involves rapid cannula movement to go through tissues and break up smaller pockets of fat.
After your liposuction procedure, Thermage® technology is used to stimulate skin tightening. This non-invasive treatment system utilizes radiofrequency therapy to tighten your skin for a more youthful appearance. This process heats deep layers of skin tissue to encourage collagen production to provide a smoother contour. The system takes 30 to 90 minutes depending on the treatment area and improves your overall liposuction results.
Thermage® can be used on most of the same body areas as tumescent liposuction including:

How Does Laser Liposuction Work?
Lasers work by emitting a light beam that is adjusted in a frequency that is safe for surgical use. The laser on the cannulas used in laser liposuction melts the fat cells so that they can be suctioned out of the body.
How Do I Prepare for Surgery?
Once you have decided to undergo laser liposuction, you will schedule a pre-op appointment between three to four weeks before surgery. At this appointment your measurements will be taken for the compression garments you will wear after surgery. We will also advise you which medications you should or shouldn’t take.
How Long Will Surgery Take?
The time of surgery varies depending on the size of the target area. Typically, it may last from one to three hours. However, patients with minor fat deposits may be done within 30 to 40 minutes.
At What Age Can a Patient Safely Have Liposuction Performed?
Liposuction is recommended for clients who are between 18 and 78 years old. However, the surgeon also considers the overall body and health profile of a patient who wishes to undergo liposuction.
Keep in mind that the elasticity of the skin decreases with age. Therefore, it may not be ideal to remove a lot of fat in older patients because their skin may not be able to recuperate with the loss of underlying fat, making the treated area sag.
