What is Laser Lipo?

Laser Lipo, also known as ThermaLipo, is the combination of Thermage® skin tightening, tumescent liposuction, and power-assisted liposuction that delivers safe and effective results which can be customized directly to you and your cosmetic goals.

The first step of your ThermaLipo process is tumescent liposuction, which involves injecting a solution of saline, epinephrine, and local anesthetic into the subcutaneous fat of the treatment area. This causes the fat calls in the area to swell and firm up, so they can be eliminated.

Our San Diego laser lipo reduces the risk of surgical bleeding and decreases post-operative swelling and bruising by constricting the blood vessels in the area. One of the best benefits of the tumescent technique is there’s no need for general anesthesia or IV sedation.

The ThermaLipo fat removal technique is complimented by the use of power-assisted technology, which involves rapid cannula movement to go through tissues and break up smaller pockets of fat more efficiently, for effective results with minimal downtime.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Lipo?

Because Thermage is non-invasive and offers a relatively short recovery time, so it is safe for most people with sagging or loose skin. People who want to reduce mild to moderate wrinkles or small skin bulges can expect significant results, while candidates wanting to treat severe wrinkles or large areas of loose skin may experience more subtle effects.

You may be a good candidate for Laser Lipo if you:

  • Are currently making progress toward your ideal weight
  • Need to lose less than 100 pounds
  • Have stubborn fat pockets
  • Have areas of skin needing smoothing and tightening

Skin Tightening for Exemplary Results

After your liposuction procedure, Thermage technology will be used to stimulate skin tightening. This non-invasive treatment system utilizes radiofrequency therapy to tighten your skin for a more youthful appearance, heating the deeper layers of your skin to encourage collagen production and ultimately create a smoother, more youthful contour. This part of the treatment only takes 30 to 90 minutes to complete, depending on the treatment area.

Laser Lipo Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser liposuction work?

How do I prepare for surgery?

How long will the surgery take?

At what age can a patient safely have liposuction performed?

How does laser liposuction work?

Lasers work by emitting a light beam that can be adjusted to a frequency that is safe for surgical use. The laser on the cannulas used in laser liposuction melts the fat cells so that they can be suctioned out of the body.

How do I prepare for surgery?

Once you have decided to undergo laser liposuction in San Diego at Avalon Lipo & Aesthetics, you will schedule a pre-op appointment between three to four weeks before surgery. At this appointment, your measurements will be taken for the compression garments you will wear after surgery. We will also advise you on which medications you should or shouldn’t take.

How long will the surgery take?

The time of surgery varies depending on the size of the target area. Typically, it may last from one to three hours. However, patients with minor fat deposits may be done within 30 to 40 minutes.

At what age can a patient safely have liposuction performed?

Liposuction is recommended for clients who are between 18 and 78 years old. However, the surgeon also considers the overall body and health profile of a patient who wishes to undergo liposuction.

Keep in mind that the elasticity of the skin decreases with age. Therefore, it may not be ideal to remove a lot of fat in older patients because their skin may not be able to recuperate with the loss of underlying fat, making the treated area sag.
